Additionally, we offer a great mouth wash that assists in helping your mouth maintain a healthy pH balance, which you may want to consider adding to your existing oral care routine.
What is Preventive Dentistry?
Preventive dentistry is, to put it simply, dentistry that is focused upon preventing issues from occurring. Even once it becomes clear that there is a problem, preventive dentistry will strive to eradicate the problem before it becomes any worse than it was at the time of discovery. That means that instead of allowing a small cavity to grow—or allowing our patients to develop any cavity whatsoever—we like to step in immediately to keep your oral health in check. Similarly, we work hard to prevent things like gum disease from developing so that you don’t have to worry about in depth treatment. We also screen for things like oral cancer to ensure that your mouth is as healthy as it seems.
Keep Your Teeth Strong
There are things that you can do to help prevent problems from occurring, too! In fact, the idea of preventive dentistry relies upon patients being as proactive as possible. This means ensuring that you have a thorough oral care routine in place and that you follow it every day. Brushing your teeth at least twice a day, in other words, and flossing at least twice a day is the minimum amount of time you should spend taking care of your teeth.
Spend around two minutes each time you brush your teeth to make sure that you thoroughly clean the area as much as possible. Also, take your time flossing so that you can make sure that any food debris is cleared from your mouth completely and won’t stick behind to cause cavities while you sleep.
You might consider investing a good mouthwash to add to your oral care routine, as these can make a big difference for some people. You might also consider brushing your teeth after every meal and after drinking anything that has a lot of sugar in it, as doing so will help lower your risk of tooth decay and cavities.
Visiting Dr. Van Alstine
Finally, you should come in and visit us regularly for cleanings and exams! We cannot help you take care of your teeth if we never see you, after all, and it is important to have a good dentist like Dr. Van Alstine on your side.
